Three miles north of Whitby, the coastal path rises over Sandsend Ness, a dramatic headland where the Jurassic cliff meets the North Sea. As well as preserving its load of ancient fossils within its mass, the Ness carries the quiet scars of the seventeenth-century alum industry. This print is of the dark barren landscape that pushes out into the sea, taken from sketches and photographs taken on my through-walk from Redcar to Bridlington along the Yorkshire Coastal path.
