What the workshop offers

An evening of making with me, Jon Haste, a working printmaker, in my York based studio.

Three hours, six to eight people, refreshments and cheese, music, and your own hand-pulled prints to take home. Not a craft class, but an evening of making something that means something.

Each workshop has a theme and as well as learning and practising technique and process, you will work with Jon to explore ideas, form and composition to create a print that matters to you.

Linocut workshop, June 3rd, 7-10pm

An evening exploring Linocut printmaking in my York based studio.

Explore Linocut printmaking as a medium from concept through to print.

You'll arrive with an idea — a place, creature, or short phrase that matters to you. I'll coach you on adapting it for linocut, then you'll transfer it to the block, carve it, and hand-print your first pulls the traditional way, with a baren and a wooden spoon. We can also make use of my press and we’ll try a number of different printing papers out too. Music, refreshments and cheese in the middle, and the chance to ask whatever you want about working as a printmaker in Yorkshire.

What you'll take home

  • Your carved lino block — yours to keep printing from at home

  • Two or three hand-pulled prints, signed and dated

  • A folded card explaining the process

  • The technique to keep printing at home with no equipment. A wooden spoon and your kitchen table is all you need. Your block can produce dozens more prints once you've left the workshop.

Your finished prints will dry in the studio and you can either collect them the following week or I'll post them to you.

Themes that matter

Each workshop I’ll help you develop a theme for the print that matters to you, around a subject which we will explore via email before the workshop, and for which you will bring images, sketches or resource material along with you.
