Printmaking workshops in York

An evening of making with me, Jon Haste, a working printmaker, in my York based studio.

Four hours, six people, refreshments, music, and your own printed work to take home. An evening of making something that means something.

Each workshop will be an exploration of ideas as well as learning and practising technique and process. I run a variety of workshops throughout the year, all involving linocut printmaking, but working on different forms and materials depending on the time of year.

November 18th, 5-9pm - Linocut Christmas cards

An evening making linocut Christmas cards in my York based studio.

The first of the Christmas-themed workshops. Simple festive designs carved on block, going on to print multiple cards.

Send Christmas cards you carved and printed by hand. Take home 6–10 unique cards to give to the people you love. Perfect for early December sending.

What participants take home:

  • Carved A6 block

November 11th, 5-9pm - Two colour linocut

An evening exploring Linocut printmaking in my York based studio.

Level: Basic linocut experience helpful but not essential

Focus: Introduction to reduction or multi-block printing. Two colours — how they interact, how to plan for them.

Take your linocut to the next level. Learn two-colour printing techniques and take home a small colour print you carved yourself. A step up in ambition — deeply satisfying to make.

What participants take home:

  • Carved block(s) — either single reduction block partway through, or two-block set

  • 3–4 two-colour prints

  • Technique notes on registration and colour planning

December 2nd, 5-9pm - Linocut printed Christmas baubles

An evening creating beautiful linocut printed Christmas baubles in my York based studio.

Carve and print a small circular design onto pre-cut paper baubles, with beautiful hanging string. A beautiful and unique gift-worthy takeaway.

Make Christmas tree decorations by hand — carve a small design and print your own set of paper baubles to hang on the tree or give as a gift.

What participants take home:

  • Carved circular block

  • 6–8 finished paper baubles with string, ready to hang

  • A small handful of blank baubles + technique card to make more at home

December 9th, 5-9pm - Present Wrapping Cloth & Gift Tags

An evening printing your own fabric wrapping cloth and matching gift tags in my York based studio.

Design and carve a small repeat-pattern into a block, printed onto natural fabric (for wrapping) and print your own matching gift tags. All in time for Christmas gifts.

Wrap your Christmas gifts in reusable fabric you printed yourself. Learn simple repeat-pattern printing and take home a length of wrapping paper plus a set of matching gift tags.

What participants take home:

  • Carved small block (~5×5cm) with repeat pattern design

  • 1–2 metres of hand-printed wrapping fabric

  • 10 gift tags with string

Linocut Printmaking workshop voucher

A gift of an evening's printmaking. This voucher entitles the recipient to one place at any 4-hour linocut workshop at Jon Haste's York studio.

What the recipient gets:

  • A place at one 4-hour workshop of their choice
